Candlemass – Lords of Doom

Ok Candlemass, Doom Legends from Sweden (well we all know that don’t we??) they have been a long time favourite of mine, in particular Tales of Creation, I am sure I could be one of the only people alive that rate Candlemass higher than Black Sabbath, or and other Doom band that walks this earth.

Their latest opus, Doom Magic Doom leaked the other day, much to my glee, as I had been hanging out for it for quite some time. Candlemass prove that they are still a force in the metal scene and in no way was the departure of Messiah a loss in anyway, Robert Lowe is so powerful and in your face he instantly makes you forget that Candlemass ever had anyone else singing for them.

As for the riffs, oh my fucking god, there is a moment in Hammer of Doom that is so reminiscent of Iron Man that I was instantly taken back to the day when I first heard Sabbath.

This album will be physically in my cd collection as soon as it hits the shelves. So I leave you with the vid to Emperor of the Void.

NEW PESTE NOIRE COMING!

Some Info on the latest Peste Noire Album has been updated on MA.

The cover art and tracks listings are as follows...

PESTE NOIRE - Album III

Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor

The third album of Peste Noire is currently available. This album is different from the two first albums in its garage sound recording done by Famine and its antiquated hard rock rhythms. The Pest have hit hard once again where we least expected it.

Defined by Famine as “Militant Black'n'Roll”, or “ Boyscout’s satanism “ this album can offend, but one thing is certain, it’s unique, a pure album of Peste Noire.

Released on digipack

Brutal Truth

So the new Brutal Truth album, Evolution Through Revolution, has leaked. What a killer album, sort of a return to roots but still relatively experimental, every self respecting metalhead needs to have at least one Brutal Truth album in their collection, so , if it isn’t Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom make it this one. This is easily going to make the list for albums of the year.

Neil Fallon

Since I mentioned his Vocal Godliness, Neil Fallon in the previous post I thought I may share the video of Blood and Thunder.

Neil’s part starts with “Split your lungs with blood and thunder

Listen to me People

CLUTCH FUCKING RULE.

Sorry I had to get that out, if you like intelligent music that still kicks you arse into next week, well, Clutch are for you.

I particularly recommend The Elephant Riders, but any of their albums will do, they all are brilliant pieces of work. Neil Fallon is a vocal god, he also sings on the Mastodon song Blood and Thunder, that moment on the song makes the entire album worthwhile (and that doesn't mean I don't like the album because I love it).

James Hetfield imitates Dave Mustaine

Need I say more?

Blind Guardian new album details

Finally we get some news from Blind Guardian whose last album was released back in 2006.

Vocalist Hansi Kürsch announces:

"We have already accomplished eight new songs. What can I say about these songs? They rule, of course. You want a more precise description? Impossible. All I can say is that each and every song is 100% Blind Guardian, which naturally means there is a wild bunch of different things going on from time to time (always?).

According to atmospheres: we have everything from the more Nightfallish "Curse My Name," to the Scriptish "Wheel Of Time." In comparison to A Twist In The Myth the lyrical direction will be more on the fantasy side as you most probably can figure out by these titles. The song "Sacred" will give you an idea about the quality and the direction of the songs.

We have mixed modern elements with traditional ones throughout the whole songs. We may need two or three more tracks before we can call it a complete album, but being that far in the songwriting process we nevertheless have made first plans for a production start in September or October 2009.

Apart from songwriting we will be heavily engaged in pre-production activities and in playing festivals during the next months. As a majority of the new songs seem to demand a sort of "live" atmosphere, we consider it to be good idea breathing in some real "live" air before we will finally get lost in the "Twilight Hall studios" again.

In accordance to these events I can promise you some surprising songs (though most probably no new ones) and a nice stage set up. In total we are not going to play more than ten shows, I would think. I am sure they all will turn out to be a great blast and a unique experience for everyone joining us."

More Metallica

I just about fell of my chair.

Cliff Burton

Since we are on the topic of Metallica and James Hetfield, here is a clip with James talking about the death of Cliff and the treatment of Jason Newsted when he joined the band.

Interview with James Hetfield

I found this interview with James Hetfield talking about Death Magnetic and the motivations behind it. Pretty interesting especially the parts about the MoP anniversary bringing out the spirit in them to play earlier material and subsequently write Death Magnetic the way it is.

Mummy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight??

Ok what the fuck is going on, first of all Limp Bizkit reform, much to everyone's disgust, now fucking Crazytown have reformed. Who is letting these abomination of bands reform? Whoever it is needs to be strung up by their gonads and be whipped with barbed wire.

I can't stand these fuckers and just knowing that they are together "performing" and writing "music" just makes me cringe, if there is truly a god he will strike those fuckers down with lightning.

Feel free to send hatemail to Crazytown, or maybe an envelope full of anthrax.

LOL^ I wish I had a shotgun and enough shells and I was in killing range of Crazytown. They would be no more.

Paul Gilbert...... the Metal Dog

Now I'm not the hugest shred fan, I mean it's one of those genres I just fall into listening to every once in a while and when I do I get into it very heavily but definetly couldn't listen to it all the time. Now there are countless shred guitarists out there who mostly have their own bands but play solo under their own name i.e. Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Michael Angelo Batio, John Petrucci etc. Now I've liked quite a few of their stuff but once it starts getting into scale wankery and meaningless flashy shit like Malmsteen and Friedman especially I don't like it.

Paul Gilbert has always stood out as a favourite of mine, because one he is down to earth and not up his own ass. He has a good sense of humour and he plays guitar cause he loves to. Not only is he one of the fastest players around but he is very versatile doing styles from metal to spanish flamenco to classical. I've decided to include a video of him playing one of my very favourite instrumentals of his (originally done when he was in Racer X) called Technical Difficulties (see what I mean by sense of humour!) sometimes called Metal Dog as well. This song is fucking kick ass, great riff that carries it and the soloing is superb. For those new to Paul Gilbert this is the best song to introduce you to him. Here it is:

The Gods Of American Doom

Of course I'm referring to Pentagram. Such an amazing band; they never were able to record an album during their earlier incarnations. It took 14 years for the band to record their s/t debut, aka Relentless, as well as a few other albums that are now classics. It seems they often get overlooked. I only got into them over the past year and became addicted immediately. So, My purpose here is to recommend them to those who aren't familiar with them, and to praise their name for those who already know them. I may be going to see them this Saturday if I feel like driving the distance. It's the "Last Rites" tour, and most likely the last few shows that these legends will ever play. So please, bow before the Sign of the Wolf as you pass through this Dying World and Relentlessly bang your head !
